Castello dei Monti is an ancient Manor House for sale dating back to the early 18th century. It is built on mountain rock some 500 metres above sea level and sheltered from the north winds by the mountain which rises behind for another 100 metres. There are also two outbuildings, one a former agricultural annex restored as a guest cottage and the other used as storage for wood and for garden implements. A third building is used for more timber storage, for the cars and a tractor/trailer.
Thus Castello dei Monti faces the rising sun in the east in the morning and at the back the setting sun in the west and sits on a downward slope with two floors at the northern end containing the old stables and above them the second floor sitting-room and an adjoining bedroom, expanding to three floors and finally at the southern end to four floors.
The buildings are located on the south-east end of the estate which covers some 70 acres (30 Hectares) and the official land map zones this into a number of land parcels classified as woodland, grazing and for crops. Two thirds of the land is designated woodland and one third for the remainder. There is an olive grove of some 350 trees with excellent produce. There are also some fruit trees, plum, pear, apple, apricot and quince and two large walnut trees.
Castello dei Monti has its private well supplying the house and swimming-pool (6 x 12 meters) with plentiful drinking water.
The main house has been lovingly restored in 2007. The double doors in front enter the house through an archway into a cosy sitting room and dining room. These we the former stables of the house where the mangers and some cow chains have been preserved. There is also a guest bathroom.
A doorway goes down to the next level, a cantina that is used as laundry, freezer, olive oil and household materials storage room, fronting a wine cellar (temperature-stable all year) and the water storage and distribution system with automatic refilling and the water softener. On down to the next level we have a small ante-room to a larger used as a music practice and tuition room with very small windows in what was once the outer wall of the house and a small door into what was once a store-room for cheeses. This has now been replaced by a balcony which looks down into a concert hall created from a large open area and two former pig-sties. It seats some 50 people and could become anything – a very large dining area, a gymnasium, a cinema, a games room, an art studio or remain a concert hall.
From the ground floor dining room stairs lead up to the spacious fully fitted eat-in kitchen on the first floor. The first floor can also be reached by an external staircase. All of the rooms on the first floor except that coming in from the entrance hall have original 18th century Tuscan farmhouse doors. From the kitchen you go into a large dayroom with an open hearth fireplace (functional). From this 5 other rooms exit. These are the entrance hall with its staircase up to the second floor, 3 bedrooms and a bathroom.
Taking the stairs up to from the entrance hall leads us to the second floor through double doors. The floor also has its own front door with external steps on the north wall. Next to these is an original wood-fired oven with its own chimney and suitable for pizza, barbecues and generally eating outside. The second floor includes 5 bedrooms (3 double and 2 single) 3 bathrooms of which 2 are en-suite, a large living-room, a fully equipped eat-in kitchen and a sitting-room into which the front door opens.
The floor has its own separate heating system
The quaint guest house of Castello dei Monti contains a main bedroom, entrance hall and shower-room downstairs, while upstairs are the living-room and kitchen/dining area (fully equipped) on a open plan design. Double doors from the kitchen lead out onto a small paved terrace with its surrounding garden – the roses are outstanding and one can eat under the old almond tree which shades the terrace.
